Spam Comments In ywWong.cOm!!!

Monday, March 5th, 2007

After a long vacation, I found out a lot of spam comments in ywWong.cOm. I believe it auto-generate by bot.

Therefore, I did some research on it and I decided to use a plug-in called “Did You Pass Math?” This plugin asks the user a simple math question to keep out bots, does not require GD or any special PHP extensions, and WP 2.0 compatible.

View example here:
math question

As a result, ywWong.cOm visitors need to answer an easy math question before you post your comment in here. Hope you all don’t mind. :-P

For those having the same problem, you may try on this plug-in.

Future of WordPress Theme - Keep theme flexible

Thursday, February 22nd, 2007

Today, I am very happy. Because YWWONG Flexible theme been regconized as one of the future WordPress theme. :-)

The below is WordPress Theme review by http://www.blogherald.com

The YWWONG Flexible WordPress Theme is an example of the growing trend in WordPress Theme designs to incorporate a flexible, or easily customizable, WordPress Theme. From the Administration Panels, the user is given options to use a left or right sidebar, changing the header image and/or background image, changing background images in the different sidebars as well as the footer, and even changing the overall color schemes from blue to red or autumn to spring colors. Whatever the Theme designer wants to offer. Other popular and highly customizable WordPress Themes are Plaintxtblog and Sandbox, which revolutionized CSS Theme design in WordPress.com blogs.

Thank you very much for YWWONG Flexible theme supporters. FYI: YWWONG Flexible is not the final version yet, more flexible feature will be add-on soon.

My Second WordPress Theme - YWWONG Flexible Theme!!!

Tuesday, February 13th, 2007

This is my second WordPress theme named YWWONG Flexible Ver1.0 - in 2 Columns. I tested it in WordPress Ver 2.0 and WordPress Ver2.1 and it work fine.

I designed this theme based on the “default WordPress theme‿ + “aYWWONGVer1.1 theme”.
Why called YWWONG Flexible theme? Because I try to make it as flexible as possible. Flexible in term of what? In term of theme layout design. This ‘Flexible’ theme allows you to customize your theme layout without any programming knowledge required. All configuration can be done in administration panel.

It allows you:

  • Use left sidebar or right sidebar
  • Change your header image
  • Change your background image
  • Change your left sidebar background image, if you are using left sidebar
  • Change your right sidebar background image, if you are using right sidebar
  • Change your footer background image

Actually the WPMU feature can be configure in the WPMU Admin - > Site Admin - > Theme tab. User may simply enable the optional themes in here, not as my last finding. Sorry for the mistake I have done in the post.

Due to public request, my first WordPress PlugIn was born. I named it as aYWWONG_hide_preview. I not familiar with PHP, I am Java programmer. Therefore, it took me about 3 hours to finish it. Including the testing. :-P It is a very simple plug-in.

Unable to add WordPress theme in WPMU?

Wednesday, January 17th, 2007

Here is some update for the post named ‘Unable to add WordPress theme in WPMU?’. I found out that I did a stupid mistake on the WPMU theme analysis :p. Actually the WPMU feature can be configure in the WPMU Admin - > Site Admin - > Theme tab. User may simply enable the optional themes in here, not as my finding below. Sorry for the mistake I have done in the post.

The below is a wrong analysis. I remain this original post for reference purposes.

Due to some users(who want to use my aYWWONGVer1.1 WordPress theme in WPMU-WordPress Multi-User) asking about “Why cannot see aYWWONGVer1.1 theme in WPMU theme setup screen?”.

Therefore, I do some research on the WPMU, because I never use this WPMU before. It took me about 2-3 hours to install and study its feature. Finally, I manage to find out the reason. WPMU try to disable others theme in their program, I not sure why they do that? If anyone know about it, please kindly info me.

For aYWWONGVer1.1 theme users. Please follow the below steps:

WordPress - An easy to use CMS for bloggers

Monday, January 15th, 2007

WordPress, a famous CMS(Content Management System) tool for blog.

It is easy to use. No programming knowledge required. Therefore, some said programming knowledge in WordPress is a plus not a must. Programming knowledge is useful only if you doing some customization/modification on the WordPress, or you define your own Theme or Plugin.

I taken a chance to learn PHP when I used this CMS. Why choose the  WordPress?

Here is the reasons why I recommended people use this CMS tool.

1) User friendly interface - Every single function in WordPress is easy to understand and use. If users have any query, they may easily find out the solution online.

2) WYSIWYG - “What you see it what you get” editor feature. In order to post a message on blog, user don’t need to understand/know about the HTML at all. WordPress provide a WYSIWYG editor to allow user post whatever thing they like(in any language - it support multiple language, as long as your database supported)

3) Theme/Template - WordPress allow user to change their blog interface in just one click. Therefore, user may choose a blog interface that suit to their need or their favourite. All the theme may found online.

Eg. http://www.ywwong.com/?p=79

4) Plugin - How about WordPress basic features cannot suit to your need? Don’t worry about it. WordPress provided a nice feature where user may easily ‘plugin’ a new feature.

The above is the basic features that we benefit from WordPress CMS tool.

My First WordPress Theme - aYWWONG

Monday, January 15th, 2007

This is my first WordPress theme aYWWONG Ver1.1 - in 3 Columns. The Version 1.0 is a 2 columns theme.

I designed this theme is based on the “default WordPress theme”. I modified it to 2 columns at the first place in order to suit my need. Somehow, 2 columns theme not really can fulfill my need. Due to its limitation of width(what I means here is the content + the sidebar’s width) in the theme. Then, I started to think about 3 columns theme. I added the left sidebar in the theme and increase the width to 800.

aYWWONGVer1.1screenshot I also reduce the height of the header image, cause it quite waste the space(why don’t we reserve the space for some other important information, like put a google ads on it:p). A calendar been added at the left side bar. It is not found in the “default WordPress theme”.

Furthermore, I also modified the ‘Page’, ‘Single Post’, ‘Archive’ pages, where the leftsidebar and the rightsidebar will always be there. (Note: In the ‘default WordPress theme’, when a user access into the a ‘Page’ or ‘Single Post’ detail or a ‘Archive’, the right sidebar will be hide, which I think this feature may not convenient for web users, they cannot access to other page immediately.)

How to install aYWWONG Ver1.1 on your WordPress??

1) Download Here

2) Extract the ywwongVer1.1.zip into your \wp-content\themes\ folder.

3) Log in into your WordPress administration screen.

4) Access the ‘Presentation’ tab, and select the aYWWONG Ver1.1.

5) Enjoy the new theme :-) .

So, what do you think about my first theme? :p

Experienced slow in WordPress Editor?

Monday, January 8th, 2007

(Note: The recommended method is only for WordPress, not for WPMU, tested in WordPress Ver2.0 Only)

For WordPress users, do you experienced slow when editing your post or page? I guess your answer will be YES. So am I.

Why it is so slow? After I do some study, I manage to find out the reason. It is because of the “Preview” feature at the edit page. The “Preview” page take time to load, and if your page consists of flash-like or audio-like contents, the condition will be even worst.

Therefore, I decide to remove/sacrifice the “Preview” feature in order to increase its performance while editing my post/page.

Solution:

1) Download my modified post.php file. Download Here.

2) Extract the post.php from the post.zip.

3) Copy and paste the post.php file into your wp-admin/ folder.

(Note:It will overwrite your existing post.php file, therefore I am suggest you rename your post.php as postOrg.php for backup purposes.)
